About this winery

Col d’Orcia literally means the hill overlooking the Orcia River. The Orcia River marks the South West border of the Brunello di Montalcino territory and the name of the farm is intrinsically linked to the physical location were the vineyards are planted. It is the mission of Col d’Orcia to produce the best possible wines that the exceptional combination of soil and climate of this part of Montalcino can achieve.

Product notes

Terroir: Montalcino (Siena), on the Sant’Angelo hill overlooking the Orcia River. Average altitude of 300 meters. Mixed soil with a high proportion of rocks and stones. Mild and rainy winter, followed by persistent rainfall in June–July and a sunny, mild September.

Production notes

Manual harvest with rigorous selection of the best grape clusters, first in the vineyard and then on a sorting table. Skin fermentation for approximately 18–20 days at controlled temperature in wide, shallow stainless steel tanks, designed to extract tannins and color effectively yet gently. Aged for 4 years, including 3 years in oak barrels, followed by 12 months of bottle aging in temperature-controlled storage.

Tasting notes

Ruby red color with violet highlights. The nose is complex and broad, marked by fruity and balsamic notes as well as spices. Good structure, well-defined tannins, and pleasant freshness. The finish is savory and fruity. Pairs well with red meats, ribeye steaks, game, and aged cheeses. Serve at 18 °C.
