Product notes
Amarone della Valpolicella Classico is produced in the Classico area of Valpolicella, in the Veneto region of northeastern Italy. The terroir is mainly composed of limestone and clay-limestone soils, rich in minerals, which contribute structure and finesse to the wine. The climate is Mediterranean with continental influences, characterized by hot, dry summers and cool winters, promoting optimal grape ripening. The hilly landscape offers excellent sun exposure and good ventilation, which helps reduce humidity and the risk of vine diseases.
Production notes
These grape varieties are grown in the Classico zone of Valpolicella, particularly in the municipality of Sant’Ambrogio. The grapes are carefully selected and left to dry for 3 to 4 months in wooden crates, using a method known as appassimento. After drying, they are pressed and slowly fermented with skin maceration for 15 to 20 days at a temperature of 23 to 25 °C. The wine is then aged in oak barrels for at least 36 months.
Tasting notes
This wine is best enjoyed at a serving temperature of 18 °C, after being opened or decanted at least one hour in advance. It displays an intense ruby-red color, almost garnet. On the nose, it reveals rich aromas of black cherry, plum, dried fig, accompanied by notes of cocoa, tobacco, sweet spices, and fine oak. On the palate, it is full-bodied, velvety, and structured, with silky tannins and a long finish marked by ripe fruit and licorice. This wine pairs beautifully with roasted red meats, saucy dishes, game, and aged cheeses such as Parmesan or Gorgonzola. It can also be enjoyed on its own as a meditation wine.
