About this winery

It was in 1985 in Mendavia that Barón de Ley settled in an old monastery, in the Navarrese region of DOCa Rioja. The cellar has positioned itself as a specialist in long-aging wines thanks to its Reservas and Grandes Reservas.

Product notes

Cenicero vineyard, with low yields, ideal orientation and climate

Production notes

Harvested by hand, in small boxes. The grapes are then transported to the cellar in perfect condition and are destemmed before passing into stainless steel tanks. Fermentation is carried out at a controlled temperature around 30 ° C for eight days, with pumping over and periodic tasting of the must. Following an additional ten-day maceration, the wine achieves the ideal balance between color, structure and round tannins. Aging for 24 months in American and French oak barrels (50-50%), faithful to the Rioja tradition. Aging in bottle for three years before marketing.

Tasting notes

Nice ruby color, moderately deep, with brick red reflections. This wine offers great aromatic intensity. It offers a bouquet of ripe fruit, which blends with toasted notes and a balsamic character. After spending some time in the glass, its aromas evolve into seductive traces of herbal teas, spices and tobacco. The attack is soft, developing a round and creamy sensation, with velvety, lively and fresh tannins. Long and persistent finish, reminiscent of heated wood and dried fruits. Perfect match with grilled lamb, shepherd's pie. Serve at 14 ° C.
