About this winery

It was in 1985 in Mendavia that Barón de Ley settled in an old monastery, in the Navarrese region of DOCa Rioja. The cellar has positioned itself as a specialist in long-aging wines thanks to its Reservas and Grandes Reservas.

Age of the vines: 25 years

Production notes

Vinification: After manual harvesting, the grapes are transported to the cellar by small capacity trailers in order to preserve their integrity. Then, the must begins its fermentation in stainless steel tanks at a temperature of 29 to 30 ° C for eight days. An additional week of maceration with frequent pumping over to optimize the extraction. The decisions during the development are always based on sensory analysis and tasting of the musts, in order to find the ideal balance between the good structure, the roundness and the affability of the tannins.

Tasting notes

Ruby red color. The bouquet has a strong fruity character, mixed with aromas from the farm, as well as notes of coconut, English caramel and attractive aromas of garrigue. The powerful attack gives way to a feeling of volume and creaminess which leads to a persistent finish. A perfect food pairing to roast lamb, lamb chops and ground mince. Serve between 16 à 18 °C.
