About this winery

Their mission since 1927, has been to be faithful to their claim “BEING FIRST”, as an attitude of constant improvement with the sole aim of elaborating the best wine. Protos, true to its roots and keeping up with an ever evolving industry, builds a new state of the art winery in 2008 in Peñafiel. Blending together the know how of their long history with the new technologies that help them continue to make better and more sustainable wines.

Product notes

Vineyards facing south in the province of Burgos. Rocky base covered with tertiary sediments forming lenticular strata of silty and clayey sand which alternate with limestone and marl, sometimes with chalky concretions.

Production notes

Manual harvest, in boxes of 20 kg. Sorting table. Maceration in the cellar in contact with the skins and fermentation for 24 days at 28 ° C. Aging 18 months in French (2/3) and American (1/3) oak barrels, then 24 months in bottle.

Tasting notes

Bright and dark cherry color with garnet reflections. Powerful, complex and elegant nose of small black fruits with toasted, spicy and creamy notes. The palate is tasty, powerful, fruity and smoky, with round tannins and good acidity. Nice structure and long finish. Ideal pairing with red meats, truffle dishes, smoked meats and fish, mature cheeses.
