The Donissan de Citran family reigned over this former Médoc seigneury from the 13th century, until 1832, when the last heiress was obliged to hand over the estate to Monsieur Clauzel. This ambitious businessman then drew the current contours of the property and propelled it to the forefront of the Bordeaux scene. The Miailhe family bought the property in 1945 and undertook the restoration of the premises until 1987. Then, a Japanese group acquired the estate and again began a series of major works. This is the resurrection of a Médoc grand cru! It was not until 1996 that the Merlaut family, already very involved in Bordeaux wine life, took the reins of Citran. The owners are now working on the development of the estate while ensuring respect for its history and its free breathing. The castle has been listed as a historical monument since 2012.
