Product notes

Soil and terroir: The best clay-limestone soils in Rioja Alavesa. - Conditions of the vintage: After a hasty break-up, the summer was marked by heat waves. Heavy rain in July. Hail on August 3 and 31 in some areas. Despite these dangers, the grapes were able to ripen under satisfactory conditions.

Production notes

The harvest began on September 4. The grapes coming from the areas affected by hail were sorted fruit by fruit. - Fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature of 26 ° C and maceration does not exceed 12 days. - The Reserva de Riscal are about two years old in American oak barrels, shaping wines that perfectly match the canons of Rioja; fresh, fine, elegant and suitable for aging in the bottle, which begins at least one before being placed on the market.

Tasting notes

Intense black cherry color, very deep and almost nothing to betray the breeding. Very expressive nose with aromas of liquorice, cinnamon and black pepper, with some subtle hints of its long evolution in the barrel which manage to stand out in the general complexity and the great concentration of the fruit. Fresh and lively, well structured by smooth tannins. The long finish continues with balsamic notes which underline its high quality. - Ideal pairing with hams, slightly ripened cheeses, moderately spicy casseroles, legumes, poultry and grilled or roasted red meats.
