About this winery

It was in 1985 in Mendavia that Barón de Ley settled in an old monastery, in the Navarrese region of DOCa Rioja. The cellar has positioned itself as a specialist in long-aging wines thanks to its Reservas and Grandes Reservas.

Product notes

Finca Museum represents a passionate commitment to showcasing the untapped potential of Cigales wines. Founded by the Barco family, the winery combines centuries-old viticultural wisdom with modern winemaking techniques. Their philosophy centers on minimal intervention, allowing the unique terroir of Castilla-León to express itself fully. The winemaking team meticulously tends to old-vine Tempranillo parcels, some over 60 years old, treating each vineyard block as a unique entity.

Production notes

Hand-harvested Tempranillo grapes are carefully selected through double sorting tables before fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. The wine undergoes malolactic fermentation in new French oak barrels, followed by 18 months of aging in a combination of French and American oak. The final blend rests for an additional 12 months in bottle before release, allowing the tannins to integrate perfectly. This patient approach results in a wine of remarkable depth and complexity.

Tasting notes

The Finca Museum Cigales Reserva, is a masterclass in Tempranillo elegance. Deep ruby in color, it opens with aromas of black cherries, cedar wood, and sweet spices. On the palate, it’s full-bodied and velvety, showing layers of ripe blackberries, vanilla, and dark chocolate, with subtle hints of tobacco and leather from its beautifully integrated oak. The finish is long, persistent, and mineral, true to the Cigales terroir. Perfect pairings: slow-roasted lamb shoulder, aged Manchego cheese, grilled ribeye with chimichurri, or even dark chocolate-covered figs. Serve at 16–18°C, and if possible, decant for 30–45 minutes to reveal its full depth.
