Product notes
The Château Chantemerle, classified as a Cru Bourgeois and located in the Médoc appellation, is rooted in predominantly gravelly soils resting on a clay-limestone subsoil. This type of soil provides excellent drainage, which promotes good concentration in the grapes. The temperate oceanic climate, strongly influenced by the nearby sea, allows for a slow and steady ripening of the berries, helping to preserve the wine’s freshness and balance.
Production notes
Château Chantemerle Médoc 2018 is a red wine made from a typical blend of the Bordeaux region, composed mainly of Cabernet Sauvignon, complemented by Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. The grapes are harvested both manually and mechanically to ensure optimal ripeness. The vinification takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, where fermentation is carried out at a controlled temperature of 28 to 32 °C. This phase is followed by a maceration period of 21 to 28 days, allowing for maximum extraction of aromas, tannins, and color. After fermentation, the wine is aged for 12 months in French oak barrels, which imparts complexity, finesse, and aging potential. Once the aging is complete, the wine is bottled with a natural cork stopper, ensuring good preservation over time.
Tasting notes
Château Chantemerle Médoc is an elegant and expressive red wine that reflects the traditional expertise of the Médoc region. It shows a ruby red color with violet highlights, and an intense nose combining red and black fruits (blackberry, blackcurrant, raspberry), floral notes (lilac, rose), and spicy hints (cardamom, blond tobacco, mocha, vanilla) supported by a subtle minerality. On the palate, it starts smooth, then reveals a firm structure with well-rounded tannins. Juicy, fresh, and balanced, it offers an elegant roundness and good persistence, finishing clean with slight spicy and peppery notes. It pairs perfectly with red meats such as braised lamb shank, beef stew, or lemon-garlic marinated lamb skewers. Best served between 16 and 18°C, it can be decanted one to two hours before tasting, especially when young.
