About this winery
El Coto de Rioja is organized as if it were twelve small wineries. Each one with the optimum conditions for its job, where each part of the process is handled independently. The vinification is carried out in small tanks that do not exceed 50,000 liters and all our red wines are aged in oak barrels, which are replaced annually. This is the only way to ensure that the work in the vineyard produces the results we really want. The vineyard is the main source of the wines’ quality. For this...

Product notes
Coto de Imaz Gran Reserva comes from vineyards located in Rioja Alta, a renowned sub-region known for its rich, well-drained clay-limestone soils. This terroir enjoys a temperate continental climate with hot summers and cool nights, which encourages a slow and balanced ripening of the grapes.
Production notes
The grapes are hand-harvested at full maturity, ensuring a rigorous selection of the bunches. Vinification begins with a long maceration to extract color, tannins, and aromas. Fermentation takes place at controlled temperatures to preserve balance. The wine is then aged for 24 months in French and American oak barrels, followed by at least 36 months of bottle aging, ensuring its complexity and balance.
Tasting notes
The Coto de Imaz Gran Reserva displays an intense ruby red color with tile-like reflections, a sign of its bottle aging. On the nose, it reveals great aromatic complexity, blending notes of stewed red fruits, toasted coconut, leather, blond tobacco, along with hints of undergrowth and sweet spices. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and balanced, with smooth tannins, a silky texture, and perfectly integrated acidity. The finish is long, elegant, and harmonious, with excellent persistence. It is best served between 16 and 18 °C, after decanting for about an hour to allow the wine to fully express its aromatic richness. This wine pairs beautifully with roasted red meats, game dishes, or aged cheeses.
