About this winery
El Coto de Rioja is organized as if it were twelve small wineries. Each one with the optimum conditions for its job, where each part of the process is handled independently. The vinification is carried out in small tanks that do not exceed 50,000 liters and all our red wines are aged in oak barrels, which are replaced annually. This is the only way to ensure that the work in the vineyard produces the results we really want. The vineyard is the main source of the wines’ quality. For this...

Product notes
This wine comes from an exceptional terroir in the Rioja Alavesa, a renowned sub-region of Spain's Rioja DOCa. The vineyards stretch over well-drained clay-limestone soils, favoring slow, balanced ripening of the grapes. The temperate continental climate, with cool nights, preserves freshness and acidity, while developing complex aromas. This unique terroir gives the wine its characteristic finesse, structure and elegance.
Production notes
Coto de Imaz Reserva grapes are harvested by hand when fully ripe, usually at the end of September. Vinification includes prolonged maceration to extract color and tannins, as well as temperature-controlled fermentation. The wine is then aged for 17 months in American oak barrels before being bottled for further maturation.
Tasting notes
The Coto de Imaz Reserva displays an intense ruby red color with garnet reflections. On the nose, it reveals complex aromas of ripe red fruits, cherry, and plum, along with delicate notes of vanilla, cocoa, and spices, resulting from its aging in American oak barrels. On the palate, it offers a fine structure, smooth tannins, and balanced acidity, with a velvety texture and a long finish. It is best served between 16 and 18°C. This wine pairs perfectly with dishes such as roasted rack of lamb, duck breast, grilled beef ribs, as well as game meats like wild boar and venison. It also pairs very well with aged cheeses such as manchego or pecorino. For optimal tasting, it is recommended to decant it about an hour before serving.
