About this winery
El Coto de Rioja is organized as if it were twelve small wineries. Each one with the optimum conditions for its job, where each part of the process is handled independently. The vinification is carried out in small tanks that do not exceed 50,000 liters and all our red wines are aged in oak barrels, which are replaced annually. This is the only way to ensure that the work in the vineyard produces the results we really want. The vineyard is the main source of the wines’ quality. For this...

Product notes
In the Rioja region of Spain, characterized by a continental climate with Mediterranean influences. The vineyards are mainly planted on well-drained clay-limestone soils, which promote good ripening of the Tempranillo. The moderate altitude (between 400 and 600 meters) ensures significant temperature variations between day and night, helping to preserve the acidity and freshness of the grapes.
Production notes
El Coto Crianza Organic, Rioja DOCa is made from Tempranillo grapes harvested at optimal ripeness, generally by hand to preserve quality. The harvest is carefully sorted before fermentation in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures, promoting the delicate extraction of aromas and tannins. Malolactic fermentation then takes place to soften the acidity. The wine is aged for 12 months in American oak barrels, which impart vanilla and spicy notes, followed by several months of bottle aging to achieve its final balance. This 2021 vintage, certified organic, was produced in strict compliance with organic farming standards, without synthetic chemicals, in order to preserve the purity of the fruit and the natural balance of the Rioja terroir.
Tasting notes
The El Coto Crianza undergoes partial destemming during vinification, allowing the extraction of elegant tannins and a fine structure without excessive bitterness. It is ideally served between 16 and 18 °C to fully reveal its rich aromas. Its color is a deep cherry red with slight garnet reflections. On the nose, it displays intense aromas of ripe red fruits (cherry, strawberry), accompanied by vanilla, spicy, and lightly toasted notes from its aging in American oak. On the palate, it is balanced, with silky tannins and moderate acidity that provide good freshness. This wine pairs perfectly with grilled or roasted meats, slow-cooked red meat dishes, as well as aged cheeses like Manchego.
