Product notes
Located in the heart of the Casauria DOCG, the vineyard benefits from an exceptional terroir between the Majella mountains and the Adriatic Sea. The southeast-facing vines are planted on deep, mineral-rich clay soils. Montepulciano, the emblematic grape of Abruzzo, fully expresses its natural concentration, structure, and elegance here.
Production notes
This wine comes from southeast-facing vineyards, cultivated using the traditional Abruzzo pergola system on deep, rich clay soils. Yields are limited to 8 tons per hectare. Harvesting is done by hand in the second half of October, with careful grape selection. Vinification begins with a cold pre-fermentation maceration of 8 days at 7 °C, followed by fermentation at 30 °C with frequent pump-overs (délestage). Maceration continues for over 40 days in 50 hl vats, during which malolactic fermentation also takes place. Aging includes 12 months on lees in oak barrels, then 6 months in vats, followed by over 15 months of bottle refinement.
Tasting notes
Podere Castorani Montepulciano d'Abruzzo DOC Casauria Riserva stands out with its deep ruby red color. The nose is intense and complex, revealing aromas of spices and licorice, combined with wild red berries, enhanced by subtle notes of vanilla, chocolate, and faded rose. On the palate, this wine offers great richness, a full-bodied structure, and silky, elegant tannins. The finish is long, persistent, and marked by notes of ripe red fruits and tobacco. This characterful wine pairs perfectly with grilled red meats, game, wild fowl, truffle-based dishes, or slow-cooked meat stews. It also goes very well with aged hard cheeses. Recommended serving temperature: 16 to 18 °C.
