About this winery

Barros translates the Portuguese character into wine, combining tradition, authenticity and modern values. Barros wines are a celebration of Portuguese talent. They express a talent which is very Portuguese, enhanced by experience and knowledge. They were created in the beginning of the 20th century, in 1913, and soon became a reference brand to Port wine consumers. In honour of the Portuguese consumer, Barros wines encompass Port Tawny wines and Port Ruby wines.

Product notes

Soil and terroir: The vineyard is laid out all along the slopes in horizontal terraces. Soil of pre-Ordovician schist and grauwacke. Altitude up to 600 meters.

Production notes

Manual harvest at the best time. The grapes are destemmed, crushed and vinified by careful maceration. Fermentation in stone tanks at a temperature between 28-30 ° C, with permanent pumping over. When the balsam degree is reached we proceed to vinage. Aging in barrels for variable periods, but never less than seven years.

Tasting notes

Brown with orange nuances. Rich and delicate nose exuding notes of dried and candied fruit. On the palate, it is elegant and complex, dominated by suggestions of figs and apricots. Served slightly chilled, it asserts all its finesse and as an accompaniment to caramel desserts, apple jelly or crème brûlée. Despite its age, its freshness is preserved; the range of possible harmonies is astounding.
