The Domaine du Vieux Château d´Astros is located in the heart of the Côtes de Provence. The commandery built in the 12th century by the Templars was occupied by its builders and then by the Order of Saint John of Jerusalem, known as the Knights of Malta. During the Revolution, the estate was sold. Since 1802, the Old Castle of Astros has been the property of the Maurel family. In the 1950s, the Domaine d'Astros devoted itself to the production of wines for everyday consumption and to fruit growing. Bernard Maurel, grandson of Joseph, gave new impetus from 1958. He planted new grape varieties and built a new cellar near the Château to produce, from 1970, his first AOC Côtes de Provence. Today, Astros has taken the “rosé” turn - it represents 75% of production - and its wines have won numerous awards, including the gold medal at the Concours Général de Paris.
