About this winery

Château La Patache was acquired by Peter Kwok and his son Howard in 2012. The Château is located in the Pomerol lieu-dit La Patache appellation and is spread over 9 plots, totaling 3.18 hectares. The plots are found on soils of great variety and complexity - a terroir made up of fine gravel with iron grime and a clay subsoil. Production notes

Manual harvest, September 28-29. After a meticulous selection, the sorted grapes are made in stainless steel vats or directly in Bordeaux barrels (around 75%). These raisins directly in the barrel follow a complete vinification. The fermentation lasts 30 days. The extraction takes place gently with punching down (vats) and stirring (barrels) with daily tastings. Running off and pressing of the marc. The juices obtained leave (or leave) in barrels for their malolactic fermentation. Aging in the same barrels for 15-18 months, 30% new barrels and 70% 1st wine barrels.

Tasting notes

A complex nose reminiscent of pencil lead, tar, truffle, undergrowth and blackcurrant buds. Rich and deep, concentrated, powerful and balanced, the finish lingers on sweet spices. Licorice, basket of ripe black fruits, cherry, bitter dark chocolate. Woody already well in tune with the wine and which will blend over the years. Serve with grilled lamb, roast pigeon, game and cheese.
