In 1970, Aimé Guibert ventured into the hinterland of the Hérault region in search of a unique terroir and fell under the spell of an old farmhouse and its ancestral mill. Owned by the Daumas family, the estate is nestled in a magnificent valley crossed by the Gassac River. This historic site, notably marked by the Moulin de Gassac — a former water mill and a witness to the region’s agricultural past — became the birthplace of Mas de Daumas Gassac. The first vintage was produced in 1978, under the guidance of the renowned oenologist Émile Peynaud, also an advisor to the prestigious Château Margaux. In the early 1990s, the Guibert family launched the Moulin de Gassac collection, with the ambition of offering more accessible wines while remaining true to the spirit of Mas de Daumas Gassac. Born from a long-standing partnership with the winegrowers of Villeveyrac, this meticulous parcel selection is guided by a strict set of standards (low yields, parcel-based vinification, biological pest control). Across 250 hectares, two agricultural engineers oversee the adherence to this expertise throughout the year. The result: authentic, elegant, and balanced wines, that truly reflect their terroir.
