About this winery

From decade to decade, Château Laroque keeps its audacity, its signature and is positioned among the best as a Grand Cru Classé on the occasion of the 1996 classification. The passion continues today with Xavier Beaumartin, at the head of the property in 2004, succeeded by his nephew Stanislas Droin in 2018.

Product notes

Since the XIIth century, Château Laroque has occupied a historic terroir, a blend of limestone and fine clays, admirably situated on the slopes and the highest plateau of Saint-Emilion. Plateau of chestnut and red clay on limestone with asterias, terraces (rising) and ribs (sunset) on fine bluish very calcareous clays.

Production notes

Manual harvest respectful of different climates. Gravity vatting of whole berries. Plot-based vinification in small concrete vats. Soft mixed extraction by punching down and pumping over. Protective macerations aiming for more flesh and salinity. Reductive aging on fine lees, partly in barrels and partly in French and Austrian oak casks (50% new wood). 1st racking after 6-10 months of aging, then a year later before bottling, from June 12 to 16, 2017.

Tasting notes

Dark red color with purple reflections. A nice bouquet of black cherry, cassis and violet. On the palate, medium bodied with fine tannins, well judged acidity, a coherent palate with black fruits, a touch of truffle and a pleasant salty finish. Pairings of game, duck breasts and aubergine gratins.
